Amazing Facts about Pompano Beach

  • Pompano Beach is often called “nature’s aquarium” for its beautiful coral reefs and variety of marine life.

  • The Hillsboro Point Lighthouse, which guides watercraft away from the Florida Reef coral formation, has a Fresnel lens used to cause forest fires when the light hit it at just the right angle.

  • Pompano Beach is home to the world’s largest butterfly park called Butterfly World.

  • You can order an ice cream sundae called The Kitchen Sink at Jaxson’s Ice Cream Parlor & Restaurant that has 12 scoops of ice cream and unlimited toppings.

  • Development in Fort Lauderdale didn’t take off until the 1920s, after air conditioning was invented.

  • More than 500 bird species can be found in the Pompano Beach area – it’s a birder’s paradise! Many mammals, amphibians, insects and marine animals also call this part of South Florida home.
